CD ROM Drive Sorting
From FreekiWiki
Step One -- Familiarize Yourself with Connectors
First, get a box of cards to be sorted, pour them into a pile in the center of the table, and rummage through them, looking for these connector types:
NOTE: You're not sorting yet, just learning the different connector types.
There will be other connector types, but the above ones are all you need to pay attention to in order to complete this job.
CD ROM Drive sorting is done in System Evaluation.
NOTE: All drive rails MUST come off. Leave the rails with their respective chassis if possible.
Sort
Create piles for:
- DVD, CD-RW (rewritable), and CD-R (recordable)
- Keep
- Recycle
Go through each drive. Look for those that go in pile #1 first. Anthing else:
- Marked 40X spin rate and above? -- Put in Keep pile
- Marked less that 40X spin rate? -- Put in Recycle pile
- Not marked with spin rate? -- Put in Recycle pile
Where to put them
- CD ROM Drives in the Recycle pile go straight to Recycling (into the motor bin) after they are signed off by the Eval instructor. There is no need to receive or label them.
- CD Drives in the Keep pile go to basic CD ROM Drive Testing
- CD Drives in the DVD/CD-RW/CD-R pile go to Advanced Testing
