Ethernet card

This is the card that allows a computer to connect to a local network. The connector on it is an RJ45, which looks like a phone jack (RJ11) but is larger, having 8 spots for wires inside instead of 4.

Ethernet cards are also called network cards or NICs (network interface cards). The standard speeds are 10 or 100 megabytes per second (aka 10BaseT and 100BaseT); cards that can do both are commonly referred to as 10/100 speed. Generally, a card that is 100BaseT or 10/100 will have an indicator light on it, near the link light, that will light up when it is connected at 100mbps.
