Improve Tours

Tours serve multiple functions.

  • They act as a first introduction to the organization and its goals for donors, volunteers, and the merely curious.
  • They illuminate how our programs support each other
  • They introduce people to programs that they might not be aware of
  • They act as a physical orientation to the building

There was a training for tour guides, and there is a wiki page: Free Geek Tour Guide (there is an older howto for tours which is being merged into the wiki page.) The documents provide a route and basic talking points. For more talking points, check Stats and Testimonials. Tours are given by whoever can be conned into it found willing to guide at the time.

Ideas for improving tours:

  • make them more self-guiding (proposal)
  • offer them more often
  • have more trained volunteers - this is being implimented as every tour i give i try to have a future tour giver on it wilth me
  • develop a short version for donors (aimed just at impressing)
  • front desk intern who could give tours on demand (proposal)
  • get a feel for who is on it. are there builders and/or adoptors and/or donors or what? great to tailor the info baised on the interests of the tour folk
