Policy
Body that set the policy(s) on [lists.freegeek_meeting_Minutes Date Adopted].
There are two general classes of repaired laptops; those which will be sold, and those which are for granting. The dividing line between those classes will be a combination of RAM and processor speed, with a cutoff spec for each: the store laptops will be equal to or below both specifications.
This specification is to be based on the best judgment of the laptop group, taking into account the demand for each category. A few repaired laptops of grant-eligible class should be reserved for infrastructure, all others (including staff requests) will go through the grants group. Grant laptop specifications are currently:
CPU: > 1200 MHz RAM: >= 512MB HD: >= 30GB Optical: CD-RW, DVD/CD-RW or DVDR/CD-RW Wireless 802.x (internal or PC Card) required.
Laptops for sale are sub-divided into categories "As-Is", Bulk, and Standard Store. All screens must work and laptops must POST on all laptops. Specifics are:
Bulk CPU: AMD or P2-266...P2-366 RAM: As you find it, up to 256MB HD: Caddy in place but no HD Optical: Not required.
"As-Is" CPU: 400-700MHz RAM: 64-256MB HD: Caddy in place but no HD Optical: CD-ROM, must work.
Standard Store CPU: 700-1200 MHz RAM: 512MB HD: 8-30GB Optical: If present, must work.
Mac_Process_Flowcharts describes how Mac notebooks are processed.
What about parts and systems that can't be repaired?
This is up to the judgment of the laptop group. The main goal is to get systems working. If parts can be sold in order to get other, more useful parts, or tools, so be it. K7aay 18:45, 21 May 2008 (PDT)
