Sell tech support tickets in the Thrift Store. You can also sell them at the front desk and fill out a "Money Receipt" form (in addition to entering it in the database) for the sale.

Creating them

Tech support tickets live in the deadtrees folder. You can print them off from there if you have an RT account, or ask a staff member to help you out if you don't.

If you have an RT account, create as many tickets in the 'PrepaidTickets' RT queue as you've printed out. Make the subject of each ticket something like "StoreBox Tech Support Ticket" and highlight 'storebox' in the correct field. Record a new RT TechSupport ticket number on each paper ticket. If you have trouble accessing that queue, please contact an RT admin.

Selling a ticket

  • Do not enter a gizmo number in the gizmo number field
  • Enter "Tech Support Ticket #XXXX" in the description field
    • (XXXX is the RT ticket number)
  • Enter the price (10.00) in the amount field
    • (Qualifying volunteers receive a 10% discount on support tickets.)
  • Enter date, RT ticket ID, sales receipt ID, and customer name on the Tally Sheet

Giving away a ticket when you sell a system

We are no longer issuing support tickets at the time of sale for store systems. The customer's receipt will act as the verification for the one-time support offered to buyers. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THEM A RECEIPT. Also explain to them that any significant change to the software or hardware. i.e. installing WinXP, will void our responsibility to support the box and they have no further recourse. Suggest to them that if they are going to install Windows that they should 'burn in' the box under our O/S for a day or two first, hopefully catching any gross physical defects while they still have support. Explain that the support ticket basically acts as a D.O.A. warranty while Ubuntu is on the machine. Make sure they understand that once they remove Ubuntu they are on their own. And yes we need to write this out and either attach it to the receipt or incorporate it into the receipt. but you should still explain verbally to prevent misunderstandings.
