Unusual Form Letters
From FreekiWiki
Sometimes we want help from folks who are doing their own weird, wonderful thing, but we don't exactly speak the same language. Don't worry about it; most of them don't speak Geek, and really, half of all Americans barely speak English, so it's all cool.
Speaking Forsoothly
This is simpler than it sounds. There's a wonderful web page devoted to how to speak proper medieval English; but it can make the head swim if you read through it all at once.
All you need to know: Expand your language. Capitalize correctly. Forego contractions.
In other words, don't go overboard, but remember "I do not" sounds more 'in period' than "I don't", f'rinstance. Ditch the modern slang; they hear that every day, and folks in the SCA, in Amtgard, ECS and other fantasy-based and medieval-based recreation societies will appreciate any effort, really. Be polite and respectful, and you'll do just fine.
Obviously, when talking about our technocrat-based charity, we can't just lump it all under "travelers from Byzantium" and go from there. But a few words here and there, properly said, is the same as knowing how to say a few words in some common non-English languages--a little effort goes a long way.
Fare thee well! And remember, just have fun with it.
