This page exists to document the social media accounts, practices and strategies in use at Free Geek. It is maintained by the PR Committee.

==Social Media Accounts==
Free Geek currently maintains the following social media accounts:
* Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/freegeekmothership)
* Twitter (https://twitter.com/freegeekpdx)
* Thrift Store Twitter (https://twitter.com/fgthriftstore, maintained largely by Thrift Store staff)
* Linkedin (Profile Name: Free Geek Portland)

We maintain these accounts through a consolidated account with Hootsuite.com.

==Posting Schedule==
Currently there is no set schedule for most of our social media postings, many of which correspond to the following topics (this is not an exhaustive list):
* Announcements of Free Geek holiday closures and other deviations from our normal business hours
* Free Geek events
* Special sales and promotions
* Profiles of, and news updates from hardware grant recipients
* Cross-posts from other Reuse organizations both local and international
* Stories in the news related to technology, free&open-source issues, environmental stewardship, and education

We generally try to post updates to Facebook and Twitter in particular at least 2-3 times per week. All PR members are encouraged to monitor our social media pages and publish posts (containing relevant content!) when they notice that it's been more than 2 business days since the most recent update.

We are working on a schedule for targeted social media blasts corresponding to each month of the year and typical trending needs associated with each. The work-in-progress schedule is as follows:
* January: Call for Volunteers (theme: New Year's Resolutions)
* February: Call for $$ Contributions (theme: Valentine's Day Free Geek love)
* March: Call for Volunteers esp. Women and Youth (theme: Women's History Month/Women in STEM)
* April: Call for Hardware Donations (theme: Spring Cleaning!)
* May:
* June:
* July: Call for $$ Contributions (theme: vacation time, giving is an alternative to volunteering)
* August: Call for Class Sign-Ups (theme: back-to-school season)
* September: Call for Thrift Store shoppers (theme: back-to-school sales specials)
* October:
* November: Call for Thrift Store shoppers (theme: gift-giving with the Earth in mind)
* December: Call for $$ Contributions (theme: holiday/end-of-year giving)

Amelia's ideas for May/June/October:
* Tell-a-friend ("Do you know someone who might benefit from our recycling/grants/volunteer/education/sales programs? Tell them about us!)
