Cards
This instruction sheet will be included in the Cards vs Memory Lesson.
Examine each card in this lesson box and find the connectors that are pictured on the Card Sorting Chart. Also find several connectors that are not included on the chart and look at the pins on the slot connectors. We will refer back to these later.
Cards are added to computer systems for a variety of reasons, usually related to absence or replacement of a connector in the on-board connections or to give the system an added or enhanced function.
Replacement Card
If the sound ports on the motherboard have stopped working, a sound card of the appropriate slot type can be installed to provide the sound functions to the system
Expansion Card
If the computer system is to be used for good quality music reproduction, a sound card that provides the needed characteristics can be added into an open card slot.
