PURPOSE AND SCOPE

  • If we do it,
  • Who does it,
  • How/What do they do.

Outreach representatives need to be properly trained, overlaps w/stuff that is the responsibility of the Outreach Committee. Outreach will help train ambassadors at the appropriate time.

Types of Representation:

  • questions:
    • if
    • who
    • how
  • types:
    • conferences
    • other freegeeks (ongoing relationships)
    • technical aid (a lot like a consulting gig, one-off types jobs)

  • if/conference = educational, schmoozing, speaking, costs (who pays for).
  • if/other geeks = happen to be in the area, help free geeks (some that

are all ass-hatted up), costs (who pays for) grants?. Can we afford the personnel during the time.

  • if/technical aid = linked to existing program, costs (who pays for).

Can be billed as a contract. Skill sharing.

  • if/general = Paying for it: Grants (maybe), other means. Can we afford

the personnel during the time or other structural costs. Don't forget the base.

  • how/general = outreach guidelines, what we are NOT.
  • how/geeks = make contacts, organizational/analysis skills for sharing

and a deep understanding for the organizational structure and history of free geeks, teaching.

  • how/conference = invitation to talk
  • how/tech = teaching, technical work and trouble shooting, cultural

exchange, process development, etc. Teaching folks to fish.

  • who/general = appropriate skills, who's turn, structural importance,

skill development, who is appropriate culturally or has prior relationship, outreach for and evaluation for potential qualified ambassadors.

  • who/conferences = public speaking, will skills gained, knowledge

learned benefit free geek.

In general, grants should not be written by folks that will directly benefit from the grant.

Program planning sheets are available on the wiki as a tool to help decide.
