MacBuild tends to seperate itself from other areas by being, in general, less ridgid in it's teaching structure, schedule, build philosophies, etc. We greatly encourage the expression of new ideas and changes to the way we carry out the shifts. This is a place to innovate. We take on Apple machines because others can't or simply do not have the patience to. To innovate takes a creative and positive mind looking for something more than technology. An instructor needn't be an Apple fan, they should be more! What makes a good instructor? MacBuild tends to seperate itself from other areas by being, in general, less ridgid in it's teaching structure, schedule, build philosophies, etc. We greatly encourage the expression of new ideas and changes to the way we carry out the shifts. This is a place to innovate. We take on Apple machines because others can't or simply do not have the patience to. A MacBuild instructor should be all of this and able to inspire this in others.
MacBuild Instructor Duties
Before the shift
- Clean-clean-clean!
- Determine area priorities for the day.
- Check the schedule to see how many/which volunteers are coming in that day.
- Discuss projects and interests with your volunteers. (Inspire them to do something different today!)
During the shift
- Clean-clean-clean!!
- Take any recycling left over from the previous shift to the warehouse.
- Go through incoming systems to sort auto-recycle from keepers.
- Orient, teach, assist and inspire volunteers!
- Sort through and correctly distribute gizmos from:
- Incoming RAM box
- Small Mac component/accessory incoming box
- Mac power supply box (in TARDIS)
- Make sure the following items are being tested on a regular basis:
- Wireless Mac mice and keyboards
- Laptop batteries
- Desktop batteries
- Airport base stations
- Airport cards
- Misc. Macintosh devices
- LCD monitors
After the shift
- Clean-clean-clean!!!
- Make sure all incoming hard drives have been locked up in the TARDIS.
- Make sure all laptops and iphones have been locked up.
- Make sure all of the work stations and areas are clean!
- Return in-progress laptops and mac-minis are put on their correct shelf in the TARDIS.
In general
