DVD Issues: If you've installed restricted extras and there is still no playback on DVDs, open a terminal window and enter the following:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
After it has installed, reboot the computer in terminal using sudo reboot
Webcam Testing:
If the laptop has a webcam, we'll test this using Cheese.
Open terminal and enter the following:
sudo apt-get install cheese
After it has installed, reboot the computer in terminal using sudo reboot
Once it has rebooted, go to MENU >> MULTIMEDIA >> CHEESE The program should instantly recognize the onboard camera.
Testing HDMI or DisplayPort:
Using the proper adaptor and a DVI cable, connect the laptop up to an external monitor. Go to MENU >> SETTING MANAGER >> DISPLAY.
Select both the monitor and the laptop, allowing the laptop to clone the display onto the monitor. [Aradan to add other trouble shooting 8/9/2013]
