This page was the whitehole page - there were 2 white hole pages and a server build page. (Matteo)
Server Categories
Not sure what to call these, but some system spec category ideas:
- Class 1:
- Sale or standard grant - Debian or Ubuntu
- 1.0Ghz - 2.0 Ghz single or dual processor
- Tower or rackmount larger then 1U
- 1GB Ram
- up to 3 SCSI harddrives installed in RAID, preferably hardware based
- At least two 10/100 network interfaces, if adding one, make it a gigabit
- Class 2:
- Sale or standard grant - Debian or Ubuntu
- 1Ghz - 2.0Ghz single or dual processor
- 1U rackmount
- Max RAM
- up to 3 IDE or SCSI drives, depending on configuration
- at least 2 10/100 network interfaces, if adding one, make it a gigabit
- Class 3:
- Grant by request, or infrastructure use, or ebay sale - OS to request or none
- 2.0 Ghz or above, or any dual core or quad core processor(s)
- Tower or rackmount less then 4U
- Max RAM
- IDE, SCSI, or SATA to spec requested - SCSI should be Ultra320 minimum
- at least 1 Gigabit interface, and at least one other network interface
- Class 4:
- anything else, on a per server eval
Things to Test
- Check BIOS voltage levels
- Check both network ports are recognized by the OS, and light up when you plug in a network cable
- Check CD-ROM and floppy drives
- Check USB
- Check KB/Mouse PS/2
- Check video
