Intro

Inreach is the subcommittee of Outreach that helps engage volunteers in the Free Geek community. How should Free Geek improve its internal rewards efforts in the next 3 years?

State of Program

We have a BBQ that's happening every month with huge success. At Geek Fair we acknowledged many volunteers for all their efforts, including those who had reached 1,000 hours of volunteer service.

Current & Past Issues

Tours need help, they could use some standardization and a training for all tour guides. The front desk area should be have more (pertinent) info available for volunteers and donors. We could be doing more volunteer rewards.

SWOT

Make volunteers feel good & keep them well-informed
Good (for Free Geek) Bad (for Free Geek)
Internal
(to Free Geek)

Strengths: Strengths are advantages we have that are internal to Free Geek and helpful to achieving the objective. (Good things we do.)

  • Tours happening twice a day every day we're open
  • BBQ's happening regularly = make volunteers happy

Weaknesses: Weaknesses are problems we have that are internal to Free Geek and harmful to achieving the objective. (Things we do poorly or not at all.)

  • Tour guides present misleading or inaccurate info.
  • Core breakfasts sporadic & expensive
  • Front Desk area is over committed and could do better to have separations.
External
(to Free Geek)

Opportunities: Opportunities are advantages we have that are external to Free Geek and helpful to achieving the objective. (Good things that will or could happen to us.)

  • We could get a tour workshop organized for tour guides to share their expertise and define what information is pertinent in every tour.
  • With many of the offices moving upstairs we could gain more room for the reception area by knocking out a wall. We can split volunteer check in and check out and also have space for a proper bag check. It could be maintained by an intern.
  • We could start taking money for donations in receiving so that the reception area is less hectic.

Threats: Threats are problems we have that are external to Free Geek and harmful to achieving the objective. (Bad things that will or could happen to us.)

  • Rain during the winter will make BBQ's less like BBQ's.
  • If we separate the bag check and donations then we will need to have two people on reception at all times.
  • There might be a lot of expenses for remodeling the receiving area to accommodate donations.
