ssh into talon if irssi is not installed on your client

run irssi in cli

join the server: /connect irc.freenode.net

to join a room: /join #fgchatter

   * #freegeek on irc.freenode.net is the main channel, which is used by most Free Geek internet people.
   * #fgchatter on irc.freenode.net is the channel used for off topic chatters, by most Free Geek internet people.
   * #freegeek-van on irc.freenode.net is the main channel if your looking for canadians.
   * Other channels are some times created (on irc.freenode.net)for special topics. an example would be the now defunct #freegeek-distro

to leave a room on server: /leave

to see status window: use alt-1

to see who is in the room: /who

emote: /me <inserts my emote text text here>

send private message: /msg name message BUT we use the 'highlight' function added to irc because it works better for us at fg

exit: /quit -OR- just logout of talon while keeping your 'screen' running on server to keep session in server background

also /quit <message> -leaves "message" as you leave
