Salary/Benefits
  • Salary is $30,000 per year.
  • 3.6 weeks paid time off per year (combined vacation and sick time, based on an assumed 37 hours work week).

Work Hours
  • Four and a half to five days per week, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 7:30pm, some evening or morning meetings, with some flexibility.

(This is a combination of the original sales coordinator job and the exploratory job that came after and was turned into a coordinator position.)

Job Description:

  • Evaluate existing Thrift Store layout, suggest & implement improvements
  • Maintain shelf organization & stocking
  • Optimize sales item visibility
  • Run the till, make sales, answer customers' questions, channel customer complaints to proper avenues.
  • Coordinate volunteers in performing daily tasks
  • Proactively communicate with other Free Geek staff & volunteers, especially those involved in testing & production, about needs of the Thrift Store
  • Help keep Thrift Store in line with Free Geek philosophy & capabilities. Be aware of Free Geek programs.
  • Document, document, document!
  • Improve in/out item flow based on Free Geek policy
  • Ensure pricing consistency amongst all staff & volunteers
  • Develop clear documentation, policies & procedures for the Thrift Store & sales
  • Coordinate with other Free Geek staff to maximize hardware reuse
  • Attend weekly Staff & Reuse meeting & participate in one additional committee

Required skills/qualities

  • An understanding of Free Geek structure & culture
  • Frugal, or otherwise able/willing to work for our wages
  • Knowledge of a variety of hardware & the communities of people who purchase them
  • Aptitude for coordinating volunteers
  • Capable of improving Thrift Store's organization, display, and labeling of items for sale in a professional manner.
  • Good customer relation skills

  • Ability to work unsupervised and be self motivated

  • Ability to work in an informal, friendly environment with a diverse staff
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs

Desired Skills:

In Addition:

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat chaotic setting and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions but will be able to work on projects almost entirely without supervision. The candidate will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes. The position emphasizes coordinating and empowering Free Geek volunteers to participate in daily Store functioning as much as possible. Additionally, this position is responsible for keeping the store running in a consistent fashion.
