Goals:

  • keep the prizes excellent & few
  • support local businesses
  • < 10 fabulously desireable items
  • $1 per ticket (bargain on larger amounts)
  • sell tickets in store & at front desk 2 weeks prior
  • find cute kids to sell tickets at GEEK FAIR

Methods:

  • Ali prepping letterhead letter with info for donors
  • call & explain goal & discover contact person
  • explain FG & get a great item from donor!

Debriefing:

  • Raffle Donors were:
    • Mirador (queen bedspread)
    • Zipcar (3 memberships w/$100 to spend)
    • Nutcase (1 helmet certificate)
    • FG Desktop (gamer-type)
    • FG Mac G4
    • FG Laptop
  • Flyer
    • intern missed 2 meetings with MK & left MK hanging with a corrupt file, which delayed publicity
    • do not allow intern to make flyer in a program we do not support
    • need intern to honor request to let us see final before being unreachable
    • design it ourselves next time, or get intern who is OpenSource capable
  • made $200 in presales in 1 week based on goal of "not losing money like the silent auction did"
    • additional amount day of was unknown but several tickets were sold
    • still some folks felt this did not make enough $$ (need elaboration, not sure how measured)
  • folks felt we should start ticket sales earlier
    • pros = more money, more time
    • cons = starting too early can cost us in other ways (ex. decreases attracting folks with raffle day of fair)
  • Sophia/Jacob following up with floppy thank you's to donors
  • 9/4/08 - still have a desktop & 2 zip car certificates to be picked up
    • find a better way to get these distributed in a timely manner to winners
