Thrift Store Meeting 11/3/10

Present: Leah, Ian, Paco, Michael M., Sergio

Note: This was supposed to be the Sales meeting but Santiago didn't show up, and Elizabeth came late so we stuck to discussing Thrift Store specific items.

Old Commits:

1. Ian will write up phone system behavior proposal for next meeting. DONE added to agenda
2. Ian will talk to production about cell phones (as per above). DONE
3. Paco will write a safari script with rules, etc. DONE - on dropbox and printed out
4. Paco will email technocrats to get a new eyes login. IP + - waiting for a response from technocrats
5. Paco and Sergio will join Drop Box. DONE, Sergio IP
6. All of us will figure out what we want to keep for the museum. IP +
7. Sergio commits to handling bulk sales and rental requests. DONE
8. Francisco and Sergio will make a Store box in Mac Land. IP

Discussion (General business):

1. Boxed software and receiving: There is lots of it in receiving. Do we want all of it, none, or some? We definitely don't want any unless it was absolutely brand new shrink wrapped never opened etc. The problem with Free Boxing stuff is that if the license has already been used it is useless and may end up in the trash. Ian COMMITS to send an email see below.
2. Review of what we are covering in Tony's absence. - We're good on this. We should make sure we're keeping an eye on sales. Paco COMMITS to look at sales trends and get back to us.
3. Laptop battery life test: will probably improve soon, according to Sergio. IP, he'll let us know.
4. Bulk sales: new procedure: those interested should email list of items they are able to regularly buy to sales at. Sergio will handle them. - DONE
5. We have an intern applicant! What do people think about adding another person? Is it too soon, with Taylor and Guillermo still being trained? Yes we want someone! We should see if the guy is even still interested. Leah COMMITS to looking into the new intern
6. Phone message when people call the store - Ian wrote up a script. Jared can set it up pretty quickly. We're all good with the script. PROPOSAL - we have the message pick up when the phone finishes ringing. - APPROVED
7. Internal card readers without cables - Should we reject them? They tend to just sit around because people can't find the right cables for them. YES - Ian COMMITS to sending email to receiving, see below.
8. Stream fishing Policy - How does the page look? It is still a draft apparently so we need to decide if it's ready to be finalized. We should add the clarification if the item is for a staff member it needs to be approved by another staff member. Otherwise the policy looks good. Ian COMMITS to cleaning the safari policy page up and finalizing it.
9. Do we want to look into selling some of the more desirable laptop bits on ebay? According to Sergio, Santiago is already trying to sell some on ebay but it seems like he doesn't have enough time to do this right now. We need to talk to Santiago to see what he thinks. Does he have enough time right now? Is it worth it to devote more time to selling these? It's important to make sure that they are actually going to sell for more $, when we factor in time spent researching selling etc. Additionally, because they're untested we can't sell them outside of the U.S. in order to remain in compliance with BAN regulations. What we need is a well researched proposal regarding whether it will bring in a significant source of income or not.- Leah COMMITS to talking to Ebeth and Santiago about selling laptop parts on ebay.
10. Things we can do to help out tech support during the transition. We should tell people when they buy a computer that things may take a little longer from time to time. Also we should take another look at the manual and make sure it's working well. Leah COMMITS to talking to tech support to find out the simple problems that maybe we can help people know how to solve during the actual computer sale. Also Leah will find out how the manual is working for people if at all.
11. Ebeth showed up late, Santiago isn't here - PROPOSAL to have the Sales meeting next week so that we can talk about this stuff. - APPROVED Leah COMMITS to email schedule at to have the sales meeting added to next week.
12. We got a best of Portland Award! It's in the education category. Who should handle the response? Us? PR? - We didn't have time to talk about this. Moved to the agenda for next week.
13. What should we do in Sales Committee meetings? Some of us are new to this. Moved to next week
