Looking for something to do?

Here are the things that need attention on a weekly basis:

Initials
Check the "Completed Disbursements" folder for disbursement forms. Double check each one in the database to ensure that it has been entered correctly and then recycle it.
Check the volunteer application files for correct filing. Once a folder has been alphabetized correctly, it can be given to Stephen for permanent filing upstairs.
Take a walk through all of Free Geek and bus all unused dishes, cups and silverware to the big kitchen. Bus any dirty dishes from the little kitchen to the big kitchen. Use dishwasher in big kitchen.
Take out the compost and the recycling from the big kitchen to our outside containers (tip = using the dolly makes this easier and faster). Please put a new compost bag in the bin if you do this (bags are in the pantry).
If the Free Box is overflowing, we need to take the contents to the Goodwill, which is 5 blocks away: 1943 SE 6th Ave - near 6th and Stephens. Fold the clothing and put them - along with the rest of the Free Box material - in a container that can be carried or rolled to Goodwill. Label it as "Take to Goodwill" and put it near the exit by the meeting room. Wipe out the Free Box with either a damp towel or with cleaning solution.
Make sure we have a good distribution of: soap, toilet paper and paper towels in our 3 bathroom stocking areas. If we are low on something, please fill out a ticket at todo/supplies.
Use a cleaning solution like Simple Green or water/vinegar to clean: countertops, phone handsets, the tops of the computer systems.
Take a look at the office supply area outside the Monkeyhouse. Are materials easy to find? If not, please help keep this area organized.
Look at the general supply area outside the bathroom near Hardware ID. Please recycle or move things that don't need to be there and pick up any trash.
Are the signs in front of the Donor Desk and Volunteer Desk easy to read? Restock brochures, clean the counter tops, remove unnecessary toys/gadgets, make sure that the lobby area is un-cluttered.
Pretend you need to get information from our Community Board. Are the business cards and announcements easy to read? Pull outdated events from the Community Board and organize it as best you can so that all postings are visible.

Looking for something to do?

Here are the things that need attention on a weekly basis:

Initials
Pretend you need to get information from our Community Board. Are the business cards and announcements easy to read? Pull outdated events from the Community Board and organize it as best you can so that all postings are visible.
Are any of the binders or clipboards looking tattered, tired or nasty? Or maybe something could be better labeled? Go for it! Make a newly labeled binder or improve on a tired, sad looking sign.
Check the staff schedule binder. We usually keep only the last 3 or 3 1/2 months worth of schedules. Remove any scheduling pages that are older than 3 1/2 months. (Remove more if we need the room)
Print more Equipment Passes and/or Reminder Cards from Dead Trees if needed.
Use a cleaning solution like Simple Green or water/vinegar to clean: countertops, phone handsets, the tops of the computer systems.
Pretend you're donor or a volunteer walking through our reception door. What do you see? Are the signs in front of the Donor Desk and Volunteer Desk easy to read? Restock brochures, clean the counter tops, remove unnecessary toys/gadgets, make sure that the lobby area is un-cluttered.
Go through the lost and found bin and label all the items in it with a date (use marker & masking tape). Any items that have been waiting in the lost and found bin for longer than ~3 weeks should go to the Free Box.
Look at the bag check cards: are they all there? Any missing or horribly tattered? Replace any missing or tattered cards.
