Revision as of 11:00, 15 May 2006
This document should be given to groups who would like to use Free Geek's classroom so they they more clearly know our expectations regarding the use of the room. If the group's receiving this document, their event has already been approved by staff and the amount of the security deposit has been agreed upon. The group should also be given a copy of the Room Use Policy.
Deposit
The deposit's due before the party starts. You'll get it all back as long as everything gets cleaned up and the building doesn't sustain damage.
Setting Up
Yes, we know there's lots of stuff in every nook and cranny of our organization. We can help you out (and there'll definitely be someone there to tell you where everything goes), but we'd love some of your people to help out a bit. Thanks!
During the Party
- Alcohol: Please serve only to those people who are 21 years of age and older, even if you're holding a private party. Yea, we know, there are some very responsible 20-year-olds out there, but it is really worth Free Geek getting fined?
- Areas off-limits: Keep your party in the south third of the building on the ground floor. This includes the classroom, meeting room, bathrooms, staff kitchen, and library. The artists' studios up the stairs are off-limits. Please don't go into the thrift store or white hole unless you have expressed permission to do so.
- Fire exits: The white hole door (you'll probably use it as your entrance), the door by the front desk, and the bay door back by the staff kitchen are your fire exits. That back bay door should be unlocked, ready to open in case of emergency, throughout your party. In case of fire, your Free Geek chaperone will be able to assist you and your fellow party coordinators to funnel people through the lab to the door by the front desk and well as to the bay door and the white hole door.
Cleaning Up
The party needs to be cleaned up before Free Geek opens. Coordinate with your Free Geek liason to be let in to do some scrubbin'. Here's what we expect:
- Garbage and recycling picked up and disposed of
- Fliers, lost and found, etc. taken away
- Surfaces wiped down (tables, counters, bar)
- Terminals put back in their places (match monitors with their systems!) and hooked up as best as you can
- Dishes washed and put away
- Sweep and mop
- Vacuum if it's pretty dusty and dirty
- Carts of equipment, bookshelves, etc. returned to their places in the classroom
- All couches, tables, and chairs returned to their places
- Clean up outside if applicable: pick up trash and sweep sidewalks and gutters - don't forget to clean up in front of our neighbors' businesses, too.
- Damage reported
- Huzzah!
Unfortunately, if you don't clean up very well, we'll need to pay someone to clean it up for you, so it'll come out of your deposit.
Thanks! Have a great party!
