- What email lists does Free Geek have?
- There are zillions. The most common ones are listed at http://lists.freegeek.org/
- How do I sign up for a list?
- If the list is advertised at the above link, click on it and follow the directions for subscription. You will need to know your email address and have a password that you can remember ready. Normally, once you've signed up, you'll get a confirmation email which you should reply to, and then your part is done. For many lists, an administrator will also need to approve your subscription, so there is a little wait while this happens.
- Several staff members can also sign you up for a list directly. Ask a staff member who can do this.
- The list I want isn't advertised there. How do I sign up for that one?
- You can click on one of the other lists, and then change the name of the list in the URL. For example, if you want to sing up for the foobar list (that's an example) you can click on the link for the minutes list, and then change the word "minutes" in the URL to "foobar".
- Several staff members can also sign you up for a list directly. Ask a staff member who can do this.
- I want to see the archives. How do I do that?
- At the bottom of most list emails there is a link to the info page about that list. Go to that page and from there, click on archives link.
- Hey! It's asking me for a password. What's my password?
- If you don't remember your password (or perhaps you never received one) then you can go to the list's info page, and follow these instructions to get a password mailed to you:
- Go to the bottom of the info page and enter your email in the field next to the "Unsibscribe or edit options" button.
- Click on the button. This will take you to a new page.
- Click on the "Email My Password To Me" button.
- Wait a few minutes for your password to arrive.
- I didn't get a password! What happened?
- Are you sure you are signed up for tha list in the first place? Are you certain that the email you entered is the one you signed up with?
- How do I search the archives of a list?
- Some archives are not searchable, since they are private (require a password to read) and therefore cannot be searched. But there is a link to the left on this wiki that will let you do a google search on the searchable lists.
