MacBuild Instructor Duties
Before the shift
- Clean-clean-clean!
- Sort incoming macs from day previous onto Eval or Recycle/As-Is shelves
- Determine area priorities for the day. Builds in progress are kept in the Tardis
- Check the schedule to see how many/which volunteers are coming in that day.
- Check in with the store to see what they might need
During the shift
- Clean-clean-clean!!
- Take any recycling left over from the previous shift to the warehouse.
- Go through incoming systems to sort auto-recycle from keepers.
- Orient, teach and assist volunteers
- Sort through and correctly distribute gizmos from:
- Incoming RAM box
- Small Mac component/accessory incoming box
- Mac power supply box (in TARDIS)
- Make sure the following items are being tested on a regular basis:
- Wireless Mac mice and keyboards
- Laptop batteries
- Desktop batteries
- Airport base stations
- Airport cards
- Misc. Macintosh devices
- LCD monitors
After the shift
- Clean-clean-clean!!!
- Make sure all incoming hard drives have been locked up in the TARDIS.
- Make sure all laptops and iphones have been locked up.
- Make sure all of the work stations and areas are clean!
- Return in-progress laptops and mac-minis to their correct shelf in the TARDIS.
In general
- Lead and listen to volunteers as you teach them to build machines.
- If not immediately fixable, report any problems you encounter with Mac infrastructure or procedures to a Collective coordinator.
- Check in with your supervisor with any comments, concerns, or new ideas you may have.
- Have fun and treat all volunteers with respect!
