Other Community Service FAQs the Front Desk has heard:

  • Can you just give me a print out of my hours?
    • Step 1 - look the person up in the database and look at the notes. There are maybe 1 or 2 exceptions; but for all other CS volunteers, the answer is below:
    • "No, but I see here that you've worked __X__ amount of hours already. Did Valerie give you her contact information? It's best for you to talk to her because each Judge and each County requires a specific format for reporting hours. Please give Valerie a call or an email. Here's her contact information."
  • What if I can't come during Community Service drop-in hours?
    • Then you should take our Volunteer Orientation tour and tell the Front Desk you need to do court-mandated community service hours. The person at the Front Desk can give you a Community Service Information Sheet and our Community Service Liaison's contact information. It's up to you to schedule an appointment with our Community Service Liaison.
  • Can't I just start volunteering now?
    • You need to meet with our Community Service Liaison before any of your volunteer hours count as court-mandated community service hours.
  • Does the orientation tour count toward my court hours?
    • No. We ask all our volunteers to take an orientation tour. The orientation tour time does not count as community service hours.
  • Can I get all my hours done in one day?
    • If we have shifts available, we will do our best to schedule you for as many hours as you need. The maximum hours you can earn in one day is EIGHT. If you're volunteering longer than six hours, we ask you to check with your area supervisor before taking a 30 minute break. We will "pay" you for this break by counting the 30 minutes as time volunteered.
  • I'd like to mix up my Community Service hours and my regular hours - can I do that and just adopt my computer?
    • We ask our (court-mandated) community service volunteers to finish their court hours first. Once they're done, they are more than welcome to participate in our build or adoption program(s).
