Thrift Store Meeting 12/15/10

Facilitator: Ian Scribe: Leah Present: Leah, Ian, Michael, Sergio, Paco

Old Commits

We seem to have lost these, but here's what we remember:

  1. Leah will add text to the warranty about a 20% restocking fee and add the text 'calendar days' to the return policy - IP: restocking fee is changed, but not the calendar days text. Leah will talk to Richard
  2. We can get eyes logins, just need to talk to Richard - IP: Leah and Ian have them. Michael and Paco will talk to Sergio since he can give them accts.

Discussion

  1. Mac Build - No more OS installs on PowerPC systems. (Intel Macs will have Ubuntu still.) There are a lot of systems which we can get moving once we don't have to worry about software incompatibilites. Sergio is writing up a brochure to give out to people so they can know how to install OSX and where to get it. We are exploring the possibility of charging $10 or some fee to install open source software on these systems on demand. They will be tested (in OSX) They'll fall under the standard warranty (hardware guarantee) although we will word it differently. The brochure will have the warranty included. Single core G4 processor machines will have fall under a 'two week exchange (as-is)' basically no warranty so we can just move them cheaply and quickly. Just to clarify they will have a tested hard drive and a printme. This change will happen once brochure is rolled out - sometime in the next week.
  2. We're getting some classic macs! woooot
  3. A Better Cycle gives Free Geek employees a discount. Do we want to formally give them a discount? We need to check on the exact amount, sounds like it's 20%. Sergio COMMITs to announcing at staff meeting that we want to give a Better Cycle employees a discount in return. He will also check on the friend discount policy.
  4. Stream-fishing policy. - The language looks good, we want to add that people have to get things approved by those who work in the specific area where the item is coming from. Sergio COMMITs to adding the stream fishing policy change to the staff agenda. Ian COMMMITs to changing the stream fishing wording on the wiki.
  5. Tickets in the sales queue - Let's all COMMIT to looking at the sales tickets and closing them if they are invalid. Make a comment when you close a thing so that everyone gets an email and can have a chance to keep it open. We'll talk about it more next week after we've had a chance to look at these.
  6. Putting DVD ROM CD RW combo drives in high end systems when no DVD RW drives are available. (For SATA only systems) - ok'd Leah COMMITs to talking to Cailtin and Meredith about changing the optical drive spec on high end systems.

Carry-over Discussion:

  1. The brochure for PowerPCs with no OS on them...Is it finished? What do we think?
  2. Tickets in the sales queue: now that we've had a chance to look at them is there anything immediate we need to address?
