Here's a script to fix all your panel problems = ) It will reset your panels to the ubuntu default and make sure everything is running properly.

BEFORE YOU RUN IT, however, open:

/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

Now find:

[ifupdown]
managed = false

And change the second line to:

managed = true

Download this script anywhere, double-click it, and choose "run."
