This internship is a great opportunity to gain experience:
- in a hands-on teaching environment
- coordinating a diversity and large number of volunteers
- collaborating with others to improve processes and make volunteers even happier
- working at a busy non-profit
He/she would also be cross-training in other areas (particularly Hardware Donations and the Front Desk) and working together with the other interns to improve these areas collaboratively.
Responsibilities
FD
- Greet visitors
- Coordinate, train and motivate front desk volunteers
- Answer a multi-line phone, check & relay messages to appropriate places
- Learn about Free Geek's programs to accurately field questions
- Accept & process donations
- Give tours
- Perform data entry
- Use a cash register
- Process till at the end of the day
- Schedule volunteer shifts accurately
- Make reminder calls to volunteers for upcoming classes
- Prioritize lobby visitors appropriately
- Undergo intensive initial training
- Print volunteer handouts daily
- Take on additional daily tasks as necessary
- Participate in appropriate committee(s) related to job responsibilities
- Proactively communicate with other Free Geek staff and volunteers about area
- Keep on top of relevant (and frequent) email communications
- Cross-train in Hardware Donations: teach Adoption volunteers basic intake procedures and help maintain flow of incoming gizmos
HD
- Manage flow of gizmos through the hardware donations receiving area.
- Teach Adoption volunteers basic intake procedures.
- Communicate proactively with other Free Geek staff and volunteers about receiving area needs.
- Teach basic hardware vocabulary and Free Geek's system evaluation process to Build volunteers as needed (we will train you).
- Ensure that receiving is well integrated with Free Geeks production and sales areas.
- Assist in training your replacement at end of internship.
- Cross-train at the Front Desk to assist with intake and processing of volunteers and donors
- Give tours of Free Geek to potential volunteers and donors.

- Teach build volunteers in Prebuild areas
- Cross-train at the Front Desk to assist with intake and processing of volunteers and donors
- Cross-train in Hardware Donations to assist with management of gizmo flow
- Learn about Free Geek's programs to accurately field questions
- Schedule volunteer shifts accurately
- Proactively communicate with other Free Geek staff and volunteers about Prebuild area, especially other interns
- Help keep Prebuild area in line with Free Geek philosophy and capabilities
- Attend pertinent committee meetings and keep up on relevant emails
- Assist in training your replacement at the end of internship
- Give tours of Free Geek to potential volunteers and donors

- Train and supervise volunteers
- Help keep Recycling area clean
- Communicate with Receiving throughout the day, and replace containers as needed
- Identify and act on priorities in recycling flow
- Assist in setting up pick-ups and deliveries with e-waste vendors
- Unload and load trucks as needed (after forklift training)
- Assist in warehouse management
- Proactively communicate with other Free Geek staff and volunteers about area.
- Occasionally help out in other areas of Free Geek's operations.
- Help keep recycling area in line with Free Geek philosophy and capabilities. Be aware of Free Geek programs.
- Attend pertinent committee meetings and keep up on the recycling emails
- Give tours

- Must be able to maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times in a sometimes chaotic environment
- Detail-oriented
- Aptitude for and enjoyment of helping people
- Must speak fluent English
- Good interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and takes initiative
- Proficiency with using e-mail and Internet a must
- Comfortable with and capable of coordinating others
- Must be reliable & on-time
- Money-handling experience a plus
- Fluency in another language a plus

- Forklift experience is a plus, but will train

In Addition
The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat chaotic setting and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions, and will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes.
