Safety Spiel

Please be safe at Free Geek. We ask/require that volunteers wear Personal Protective Equipment while working at Free Geek. Different areas have different requirements.
Receiving, Prebuild, Hardware Testing
Instructor:
- show volunteer gloves and safety glasses, volunteers are encouraged to wear them for regular receiving/evaluation/testing work. PPE are required for all recycling tasks!
- point out First Aid Kits, ask that volunteers inform staff of ALL injuries,
- check out tool kit, and ask volunteer to inform you of any issues with tools (worn, broken, missing)
- ask volunteers if they will need any help lifting or moving gizmos, make sure they know who to ask for help
- unsafe work practices (hammering, breaking) will not be tolerated, let volunteers know to ask for help opening systems, or removing parts
Recycling Warehouse, Printerland
Instructor:
- Volunteers are REQUIRED to wear closed-toed shoes, safety glasses, and gloves at all times while working, make sure volunteers choose the right size of gloves, or they will take them off
- point out First Aid Kits, ask that volunteers inform staff of ALL injuries,
- check out tool kit, and ask volunteer to inform you of any issues with tools (worn, broken, missing)
- ask volunteers if they will need any help lifting or moving gizmos, make sure they know who to ask for help
- unsafe work practices (hammering, breaking) will not be tolerated, let volunteers know to ask for help opening systems, or removing parts
- No food or drink (open containers) in the warehouse.
Build Room, Laptop Land, Mac Land
Instructor:
- Volunteers are REQUIRED to wear closed toes shoes
- Volunteers are encouraged to wear safety gloves, glasses when doing disassembly
- point our First Aid Kits, ask that volunteers inform staff of ALL injuries
- check out tool kits, and ask volunteer to inform you of any issues with tools (worn, broken, missing)
- unsafe work practices (hammering, breaking) will not be tolerated, let volunteers know to ask for help opening systems, or removing parts
- encourage volunteers not to eat around work areas, and discourage all open drink containers
Hallways, Classroom, Library
Everyone:
- Please make sure that isles and walkways are clear of all obstructions. Be aware that wheelchairs, as well as volunteers with sight impairments, are moving through the building
- Discourage food and drink in the library area near the computer terminals.
