Demand for early donations experiment

kathie here -

I did a 2 week research on number of donations / donors that arrive before 11:00 am. The week was Thursday, November 3rd through Thursday, November 17th of 2005. Times were 9 or 9:30 am to 11 am.

Overall results are:

  • 42 donations turned away:
    • 3 were for businesses or large vans/trucks
    • 39 were people in cars

The breakdown (with start times):

  • Thu 11-3 9:00 am 7
  • Fri 11-4 9:00 am 3
  • Sat 11-5 9:00 am 2
  • Tue 11-8 9:15 am 4
  • Wed 11-9 9:00 am 3
  • Thu 11-10 9:15 am 5
  • Fri 11-11 9:00 am 2
  • Sat 11-12 9:45 am 4
  • Tue 11-15 9:30 am 6
  • Wed 11-16 9:30 am 3
  • Thu 11-17 9:00 am 3

42 donations in a 2 hour period is about the same as the actual number of donations we got in the same two week period between 5:00 and 7:00 pm when we got 44 donations over the same two week period. Obviously there'd be more if we were actually open early. What we don't know is what happened to the 42 donations Kathie saw? Did they come back later on in the day or disappear forever? Any ideas Kathie? RfS 18:45, 18 Nov 2005 (PST)
