Despite the fact that FreeGeek Tacoma is not authorized by Free Geek to be a "Free Geek" in those precise internal "franchising" terms, the organization, "FreeGeek Tacoma" IS duly registered as a charitable corporation recognized by the State of Washington and is therefore legally able to function AS a computer recycling operation which can perform the same activities as Free Geek. Also, notice that the corporate name, "FreeGeek Tacoma" does not include a space between the Free and Geek, as does Free Geek.

That said, there has been a feeling by the membership that FreeGeek Tacoma would honor Free Geek's wishes for control of the name, and until April 2007, was in the process of beginning a name change to the Free PC Foundation. The reasons for this are that we felt that there was enough question about what exactly constituted a "consensus based organization" versus a "democratically run organization" that the name change would be the best method to avoid potential litigation in the future.

At present, FreeGeek Tacoma as a business has failed due to the inability of staff and volunteers
to come up with the resources necessary to establish a building site in which to conduct business.

Current Status: The assets of FreeGeek Tacoma are available to any person or persons who would like to take on the challenge of starting up this operation in the mid/south Puget Sound Area. This includes the corporation name and charitable organization status, a bank account, web site and domain name, and a handful of "ready-for-distribution" systems.
