Salary/Benefits
  • Salary is $30,000 per year.
  • 3.6 weeks paid time off per year (combined vacation and sick time, based on an assumed 37 hours work week).

Work Hours
  • Four and a half to five days per week, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 7:30pm, some evening or morning meetings, with some flexibility.

Intro

You could be Free Geek's next Sales Coordinator! The ideal candidate need not possess an in-depth knowledge of computers and/or electronic gizmos but rather a willingness to learn about Free Geek culture and a desire to help increase income for the organization. There will be some months of training before candidate is fully up-to-speed, so patience is crucial. In fact, the first 6 months of your time at Free Geek are as a probationary member. The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat chaotic setting and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions but will be able to work on projects almost entirely without supervision. The candidate will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes. The position emphasizes coordinating and empowering Free Geek volunteers to participate in daily Thrift Store functioning as much as possible. Additionally, this position is responsible for keeping the store running in a consistent fashion. Read on, intrepid soul!

Job Description:

  • Help fulfill Free Geek's mission
  • Help develop sales growth plan
  • Coordinate volunteers in performing daily tasks
  • Help keep Thrift Store in line with Free Geek philosophy & capabilities. Be aware of Free Geek programs.
  • Communicate with other Free Geek staff & volunteers about needs of the Thrift Store
  • Document, document, document!
  • Improve in/out item flow based on Free Geek policy
  • Ensure pricing consistency
  • Develop clear documentation, policies & procedures for the Thrift Store & sales
  • Coordinate with other Free Geek staff to maximize hardware reuse
  • Maintain shelf organization & stocking
  • Optimize sales item visibility
  • Run the till, make sales, answer customers' questions, channel customer complaints to proper avenues.
  • Attend Staff & Sales Committee meetings & participate in one additional committee

Required skills/qualities

  • Aptitude for coordinating volunteers
  • Have a flexible schedule, able to work Sundays as Store hours expand for holidays
  • An understanding of Free Geek structure & culture
  • Good customer relation skills
  • Frugal, or otherwise able/willing to work for our wages
  • Knowledge of a variety of hardware, or willingness/aptitude
  • Capable of improving Thrift Store's organization, display, and labeling of items
  • Capable of acting as a Free Geek Sheriff, i.e. holding down the front of house
  • High level of patience
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in an informal, friendly environment with a diverse people
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs
  • Work well under stress in an unusual setting, maintaining a positive attitude even in the face of adversity
  • Ability to work and communicate well in a collectively-run organization
  • Ability to work in a consensus decision making process related to staff and policy issues

Desired Skills:

  • Merchandising or sales background a plus
  • Familiarity with collectively-run organizations
