Salary/Benefits
  • Wages are $11.55 per hour.
  • Length of job: 6 months
Work Hours
  • Part-time, 24 hours per week.
  • Four days per week or five shorter days, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 7:30pm, some evening or morning meetings, with some flexibility

Responsibilities

  • Learn about Free Geek's programs to accurately field questions
  • Give tours
  • Schedule volunteer shifts accurately
  • Coordinate and supervise prebuild volunteers
  • Teach build volunteers in Prebuild areas (Card & Motherboard Sorting & System Evaluation I + II)
  • Proactively communicate with other Free Geek staff and volunteers about Prebuild area.
  • Cross-train in other areas to occasionally cover shifts.
  • Help keep Prebuild area in line with Free Geek philosophy and capabilities.
  • Be aware of other Free Geek programs.
  • Attend pertinent committee meetings and keep up on relevant emails

Required Skills

  • Aptitude for and enjoyment of helping people
  • Experience coordinating and/or instructing people
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, and able to eventually work with little supervision
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong organizational skills (you like to put stuff in order)
  • Able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds on a regular basis
  • Basic hardware knowledge
  • Detail-oriented
  • Aptitude for and enjoyment of helping people
  • Must speak English
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, and able to eventually work with little supervision
  • Must be reliable & on-time
  • Fluency in another language a plus

In Addition

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat chaotic setting and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions but will be able to upkeep the area almost entirely without supervision. The candidate will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes.
