Mailings
Direct Mailing 2008
To encourage contributions to Free Geek through the Give Guide, two direct mailings were sent out to the same 2500 people. These people were chosen from the database for two reasons. First, these people had donated technology to Free Geek within the last year. Second, these people lived in relative close proximity to Free Geek (predominantly east-side).
- After receiving nonprofit status from the post office, the first mailing was organized.
- First Mailing (sent Nov 14th)
- Received corporate discount from Media Mothership, aka "the Brick House Project" [503-525-0223] for .37 per card (4 X 5.5) for first class which totaled $925 for the 2500 sent.
- First class was chosen for the "return address requested" service to help update the database for the second mailing to this group. There was no extra charge for this service when using first class.
- Second Mailing (sent Dec 1st)
- Bulk Rate from Jab Media, aka "Web Nation" [503-761-7117] for 2500 cards (8.5 X 5.5) totaled $929.44. There was no extra postage to send out a larger card via bulk rate.
- "Return address requested" service included again on the cards. For bulk rate there is an extra charge for cards returned.
- An added service of updating the entire database with valid addresses (NCOA service) totaled $120.
