Triaging Methods

Ron, Alan and Dan of the Friday crew have been organizing and testing the old beige machines. They have a good idea of what's stored in the warehouse, as well as along the back shelves in Mac Land.

Keepers

What has vaule (educational, resale, etc) of the legacy stuff?

Stickering System

  • Red: Has hardware problem, usually bad caps. Machines with other issues are generally recycled outright. System probably still has HDD
  • Yellow: Powers on, not fully tested, case has not been opened, has HDD
  • Green: System tests out good, case is ready to be opened for internal cleaning, HDD is sometimes removed at this stage, most often just wiped (using Disk Utility 7.05 or 7.053, includes BadBlocks test as well), should have an orange tag at this point that lists what hasn't been done.
  • Blue: Tested with wiped HDD, FOSS OS installed, cleaned inside and out, completed Orange tag.
  • No sticker: No triaging done
