Front of the Build Sheet
- include space for notes about the system
Build Steps
- Install RAM -- Install RAM to match specifications of system type you are building
- Install Hard Drive -- Install a Hard Drive to match specifications
- Restore BIOS defaults -- Enter BIOS & restore defaults, keystroke to enter BIOS displayed at startup
- Auto-detect Hard Drive -- Are you there hard drive? It's me, build volunteer.
- Set Parallel Port -- Set Parallel Port to EPP or Bi-Directional, enable on 0x378
- Set Boot Order -- Set to boot from from floppy first
- Save & Exit BIOS -- Anything else look odd?
- Run basiccheck -- Login as oem (password:freegeek), open a terminal, & enter "basiccheck"
- Test CD-ROM -- Test both an audio & data CD
- Test CD-RW -- If lappy has one, then download k3b, then burn a CD
- Test DVD-ROM -- If lappy has one, then use Automoatix to download DVD codecs, then test a DVD
- Check in with Build Instructor -- Leave lappy plugged in to charge battery
- Clean Up -- The maid has been laid off, clean up the mess you made.
QC Steps
- Lappy doesn't rattle? (Pick up Lappy and shake)
- Are all the screws present and in tightly?
- Are the slots and bays covered?
- Are the components consistent with the specs for the type of lappy?
- Clean the lappy up, replace parts if necessary.
- Is the floppy set to boot first in BIOS?
- Is the parallel port enabled on 0x378 & set to EPP or Bi-Directional?
- Login as oem (password:freegeek), open a terminal, & enter "basiccheck"
- Check mouse & keyboard (every key!) to ensure they work correctly
- Check Time & Date
- Play an audio CD - everything normal?
- Read a data CD - does it work?
- Remove CD from drive
- Attach printer cable & enter "printme" in terminal
- BATTERY LIFE - WHAT'S THE COMMAND FOR THIS?
- Check sleep states
- Check in Build Instructor for where to put Lappy
- Clean up the mess you made
