Bag Check Policy: Bags need to be checked at front desk. This policy explains who is exempt from that.
List of Policies - Policy Development

Policy

This policy needs to be approved at a staff meeting

Bag Check

Volunteers are required to check their bags at the front desk. This policy has been adopted to increase security of volunteers' belongings and the security of Free Geeks shiny gizmos that go to non-profits, our volunteers or help bring in revenue through thrift store sales.

How it works

Bags are checked when a volunteer comes to the front desk to check in for their shift.

  1. volunteer hands the front desk personnel their bag.
  2. front desk personnel hands volunteer a memory stick with a number indicated the location of their bag on the shelf.
  3. volunteer comes to log their hours and collect their bag after a shift.
  4. they give the front desk personnel their memory stick in exchange for their safely guarded bag.

It is shockingly simple and effective. This policy also applies to any unescorted visitors at Free Geek.

Who is on the Sackville-Baggins list?

This policy was adopted by the Staff Collective on September/28/2007

  1. Volunteers who are exempt from the bag check policy are on the Sackville-Baggins. They currently include all build instructors. They often need the materials in their bags to teach and are long term volunteers who generously donate their time as build instructors.
  2. Visitors that are escorted by a staff person or tourist who are escorted by a tour guide are allowed to carry their bags.
