Fifteen minutes before shutdown:

Lights to turn/leave on (all others go off):

* Go through each room and announce that we'll be closing in fifteen minutes.

Miscellaneous items to check:
* Tell each volunteer to come to a good stopping point, and to get their hours recorded at the front desk.

* Selectively turn out lights to show that we are, in fact, about to close.

*Bring in smokers' oasis
* Check any door that is supposed to be locked all the time. Make sure that they are locked.

# In [[PreBuild]]:
 
* Turn off each of the test stations (use the power strips).
 
* Turn off the lights, look for the RED wall switch.
 
# Proceed into the [[Warehouse]] and look down each aisle.
 
# Switch off the lights over the System Keeper shelves at the switch on the south wall, about 10 feet from the east windows.
 
# Go to the northeast door. Open it and check the external door. Then check the internal door. Both should be locked and shut.
 
# Switch off the warehouse lights at the light switch behind the "Recycler Checkin" area, next to the electrical panel on the north wall (near northeast corner).
 
# Proceed thru the [[Recycling]] area. Turn off the radio.  Turn off any fans.  Check the door and the rollup door. Both should be locked.
 
# Turn off all monitors in the Monitor Test area.  If it is the night before a weekend or holiday, turn off the 3 monitor test computers.
 
# Proceed into Printer Island.  Turn off any printers, work lamps, and the radio.
 
# Proceed back to the PreBuild area, locking the warehouse door behind you.
 
# Proceed to the Janito Supply Room. Turn off lights there and in the adjacent bathroom.
 
* Proceed towards Advanced Test.
 
# Close and latch door to the [[Mezzanine]]/[[Tree House]].
 
# Check the [[Tardis|Build Office]] doors. Both should be locked.
 
# In [[Advanced Testing]]:
 
#* Check to see if Hard Drive tests are underway. (Check all hard drive testers, checking all channels on the switch while looking at the monitor.)

# Proceed into the Build area:
 
#* Turn off computer terminals, all monitors and speakers, and printer. (Check for written instructions for exceptions before doing this.)
 
#* Turn off switch on west side of South wall
 
#* Unplug speaker power supplies/bricks.
 
# Exit Build into the [[Lab]], turning off Build lights (to the left of the door as you exit).
 
# Turn off computers and Printers in the Lab.
 
# Exit the Lab and cross the Big Classroom. Go ahead and to the right.
 
# Switch off lights in both bathrooms.
 
# Check the rollup door next to the stairway.
 
# Proceed through the Kitchen. Make sure nothing is burning in the toaster oven.
 
# Proceed into the [[Core Lounge]]. Switch off the lights in the Core Lounge (and this kills the lights in the kitchen as well.)
 
# Pass [[Monkeyhouse]]. Check the door (it should be locked).
 
# Check the [[Meeting Room]].
 
# Check the external door and switch off lights for Meeting Room / MonkeyHouse (near the door).
 
# Go into the Store and check the external doors. They should be locked and latched.
 
# Lock the door from the Store into the Meeting Room / [[Monkey House]] area.
 
# Proceed back into the Big Classroom. Switch off the lights (east wall).
 
# Proceed back into the Core Lounge. Cross and turn right down the hallway.
 
# Switch off lights in kitchen and bathroom. Make sure the coffee machine is off.
 
# Switch off lights into the Lab (left hand side of wall in hallway).
 
# Lock office doors.
 
# Check cabinet inside office (where money goes). It should be locked and money should be put away.
 
# Proceed to the Reception area. Turn off data entry terminal. Leave front desk computer on. Turn off its monitor. Turn off printer.
 
# Put away flashlight and checklist.
 
# Turn off lights to Reception and offices (next to front door).
 
# Latch and lock front door.

Standard staff closing considerations/tasks

Tasks:

  • Collect tills (donor desk and store) and lost and found items and store securely in Escape Hatch
  • Remove open food from kitchen, fill and run dishwasher (if not previously handled by volunteers/staff)
  • Turn off all monitors (except servers)
  • Ensure no one is hiding in bathrooms
  • Keep an eye out for loose hard drives (esp. laptops) and dishes (esp. w/ food) in random places

Door locks to check:

  • All external doors (Warehouse x3, Receiving, Donor Desk, Store, bike room)
  • Internal doors: Mezzanine, servers x2, store x2, laptops x3, warehouse, tech support

Lights to turn/leave on (all others go off):

  • Light by volunteer desk (on the wall), light in Macland, lights in the cage

Miscellaneous items to check:

  • Volunteer chairs should be off sidewalk
  • Bring in smokers' oasis
  • Hard drives in Laptops & Macland

Closing for Meetings:

  7. Arm the alarm by puching in your code. You now have 30 secs to make sure the door is closed behind you (plenty of time).
  8. Turn off the lights in hall on your way out (left side of hall).
  9. Exit the door and make sure it latches behind you.
