The freekbox uses CUPS for printing, but the configuration system has changed a great deal over the various versions of the Freek Box. Template:Outdated The Linux Foundation maintains a very healthy database of compatible printers here.
Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04)
- Have the printer connected to the computer and powered on
- Go to System>Admininstration>Printing in the menu
- Click on "New Printer"
- The printer should be listed on the left. Select it and click continue.
- Select the appropriate printer make and model on the following pages. There may be additional configuration options.
- Give the printer a name
Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04)
- Have the printer connected to the computer and powered on
- Go to System>Admininstration>Printing in the menu
- Click on "New Printer"
- The printer should be listed on the left. Select it and click continue.
- Select the appropriate printer make and model on the following pages. There may be additional configuration options.
- Give the printer a name
Dapper Drake (Ubuntu 6.06)
- Have the printer connected to the computer and powered on
- Go to System>Admininstration>Printing in the menu
- Doubleclick on the "New Printer" icon
- The printer should be listed in the box in the middle. Select it and click Forward.
- Select the appropriate printer make and model on the following page. Do not click "Install Driver". Forward.
- Give the printer a name
FreekBox 3 (Debian Sarge) and earlier
- Open a browser
- Browse to "http://localhost:631"
- Click on "Manage Printers"
- Click on "Add Printer"
- The first time you do this a dialog box will come up asking for a username and password. Use "root" and the root password.
- Printer name - required, should be a single word (no spaces)
- Location - optional, can be anything
- Description - optional, can be anything
