This Page is for listing improvements and changes you'd like to see in Free Geek's Linux Distribution.

General

  • libdvdcss, vlc, restricted-extras. We install these during the class, why not make it part of the build process or include them in the distro. Licensing has already been reviewed multiple times, and there are no legal issues with distributing them for free.

Tech Support

  • A way to not require the users password when they bring a box in to tech support. We shouldn't be asking people for passwords, we also shouldn't have to reset them. A script that backs up the current password and then restore the settings when done.
  • A user account that can be used for remote support, or a way of easily using VNC or ssh to remotely connect to users who need tech support (other then with networking issues) Using ssh keys perhaps?

Done

(stuff we've already added or changed)

  • Additional Mobile Broadband support (fixes and drivers for some clear and other mobile broadband devices)
  • NdisGTK (an easy to use GUI for installing windows wireless drivers on linux
  • FreeGeek Manual
  • Ubuntu Pocket Guide.
