Evaluation

Just because an item appears to have value it may not. The purpose of evaluation of items is to determine if it indeed has value and should be sold via EBAY. The general rule of thumb is if you can make at least $25.00 after shipping it might be worth listing on EBAY. (you must do this step logged in as seller)

EBAY

  1. To see prices of items already sold:
    • Search for the item
    • In search options choose "Completed items"
    • Login (results given to registered users only)
    • Note number of bids. Sometimes ZERO bid items show here.
    • Look for alternate spellings of items.
    • Study the winning bids for information (Links) for more info.

General questions you should ask after determining value are:

  1. Does the gizmo work?
  2. Is it too heavy to ship? (anything above 50lbs should probably not be sold via EBAY)
  3. If it doesn't work can it be repaired easily?

These Items are identified as easy sellers:

  1. Cisco (All except 675 routers)
  2. 3Com (All 100Mbs Network cards)
  3. Intel (All 100Mbs Network cards)
  4. PC100 and 133 Memory above 128MB

Listing

  1. Before posting any item you need to know the weight and dimensions of the product.
  2. Login to EBAY and select the sell tab at the top left of the page.
  3. Choose online auction and click "sell your item"
  4. Select your catagory then click next at the bottom of the page
    • This step can be very important for listing as it will help determine search criteria

Packaging

  • After posting you need to package the item posted

Packing for shipment

  • use a box that is not damaged and is close to twice the size as item being shipped.
  • Always use an anti-static bag
  • Pack with foam or bubble wrap
  • Be sure you pack item tighly to restrict movement in transit.
  • Measure Box and weigh it.
  • Label outside of box with Ebay reference number, size and weight shipping.
  • Put on Ebay shelf until it time to ship item.

Shipping

Do not ship any item until payment is received via paypal This process is two fold. First you need to send a quote to the winner of the auction with the total price of said item including shipping to his location. To do this you need to know where to ship and how you need to ship. We primarily use UPS. SeeUPS HOWTO. After you have recieved payment from paypal then follow step by step instructions below

  1. print email with address from paypal reciept
  2. Login to UPS
  3. Add new address
    • Do not save address.
  4. Choose shipment type (ground) from drop down menu.
  5. choose packaging type (your packaging)
  6. select number of packages (usually only one)
    • have to create different shipment for every package shipped
  7. enter weight from package (should be written on it.
  8. don't worry about the value
  9. Add Ebay refence number in Reference 1
  10. click schedule pickup (only need this done once per day, they charge for pickups)
  11. cLick ship now
  12. print a reciept (this has the tracking information)

Verify information, and set at reception for pickup from UPS. Notify receptionist that there is a package waiting for pickup.

Last but not least staple the paypal email reciept to the UPS reciept for filing, give that to the person responsible for doing Ebay sales.

Part 5 Following up

This is an important customer service component. It needs to be done dwith every shipment. (gives us good feedback with EBAY.

  • send and email to verify shipment and tracking number to the person with the expected timeline of delivery. (this is not always done automatically via UPS.
  • Leave feedback on the Ebay about the transaction.
