LPIC-1 : Linux Professional Institute Certification Study Guide

This seems to be the book to use; systematic, follows test closely:

It includes a PDF version on CD which is excellent for remote laptop study, and excellent for searching.

Did not find in any Portland libraries.

LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell

Though widely available in Portland's libraries, the first edition of O'Reilly's LPI text is way outdated, though the new 2nd edition comes out July 1st, 2006, so there may be time to go through it within the month before the next Freegeek test offering, end of July, 2006:

Quotes from the Mailing List

An exam taker:

For those still taking the test and can live out the extended time (took me,..2 hours back to back?).. I actually recommend taking both of them together. I found on both 101 and 102 that study materials prepared a little bit for both.. or more concisely, they prepared me for topics that were covered on both tests .. but things that study guides had labelled as 101 found their way to the 102 test, and inversely.

From LPI:

In regards to the website. We hired someone quite sometime ago to redo the website. This is why it has not been updated. The new website was suppose to go live at the end of January. Unfortunately, this has not happened. I would give you an approximate date, but I have done this 3 or 4 times and it has still not happened. Please let your candidates know that we have been recreating our website and this is why the current one has not been updated recently.
In regards to the Level 2 exams. New Level 2 exams were written and they have been published as a CBT (Computer Based Test) for 3 of the 7 languages. Once they have completed the CBT's in the 7 languages. They will move on to the PBT's (Paper Based Test). It was my misunderstanding when they told me there would be new Level 2's at the beginning to middle of 2006, I assumed that included both CBT and PBT. Unless something changes, Level 2 paper will be available at the end of 2006.
Any candidate that wishes to take Level 2, still can at any Vue and Prometric testing center.
