List of Mandates

Mandates are things we are required to do, usually by an outside force. This can include expectations as well as regulations.

(This list is way incomplete, and needs lots of work just to start it up.)

• We are required by PCI to have a network security policy in order to process credit cards.
• We are strongly encouraged by the IRS to have policies on:
  • conflicts of interest,
  • whistleblower,
  • document retention and destruction,
  • joint ventures,
  • review of the 990, and
  • executive compensation.
• We are required by the IRS to report on our programs, fundraising and administrative expenses annually.
• We are required by the City of Portland to only give away* FG-PDX systems to Portland city residents and organizations, with preference given to K-12 students, or organizations that work K-12 students.

• We are required by OR e-cycles (NCER) to abide by our contract with them
  • what and how we receive items
  • monthly reporting of incoming and outgoing gizmos
  • yearly audit for our receiving/data security/recycling processes.
• requirement by OSHA and insurance for worker and volunteer safety
  • yearly reports regarding incidents (OSHA 300)

* An exception has been verbally agreed upon with the City where we can sell FG-PDX systems in order to make back the cost of parts purchased in order to refurbish FG-PDX laptops.
