(Do we want to move any of the meta-meeting minutes content (from RT) to this page? Luiz 00:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC))

The PR committee's regular meeting on May 9, 2009 has been set aside to be a long-term strategic planning session.

This page is a place to hold discussion to this end.

OK! Go!

Check out the PR Plan page to see where this discussion was left last.

Objectives

What do we want to achieve?

SWOTs

What is the current internal/external situation regarding each of our Objectives?

A place to throw around as many SWOTs as needed. The first one I'm starting is specific to PR's role in building Community Partnerships.

Community Partnerships

(Now that RAD "ownes" CPs should this SWOT be moved to http://securewiki.freegeek.org/index.php/Community_Partnerships? Luiz 00:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC))

Objective: To craft long-term relationships with outside organizations that are beneficial to both parties.
Good (for Free Geek) Bad (for Free Geek)
Internal
(to Free Geek)

Strengths: Strengths are advantages we have that are internal to Free Geek and helpful to achieving the objective. (Good things we do.)

  • We offer both recycling/green program, and social service element; can tailor message to meet partners' needs
  • New website is up and lookin' slick
  • Many great stories available regarding past grant recipients, as well as future ones (direct connection to donor's stuff)

Weaknesses: Weaknesses are problems we have that are internal to Free Geek and harmful to achieving the objective. (Things we do poorly or not at all.)

  • Data Security is a work in progress
  • Don't have existing business partnerships to point to yet, so we're starting each negotiation from scratch and can't point to the concrete benefits we are offering, such as case studies, press coverage, feel-good events. We're selling an idea, not a thing at this point.
  • Lacking a system for gathering stories from our recipients; we're thin on content/tracking.
  • Storage space becoming tight.
External
(to Free Geek)

Opportunities: Opportunities are advantages we have that are external to Free Geek and helpful to achieving the objective. (Good things that will or could happen to us.)

  • Great cred. in the community; we've given stuff to so many groups, so we already have an "in" with all of them.
  • Ongoing discussions with potential community partners; many contacts already established with big players
  • Many groups contacting us about potential events/projects
  • Existing City partnership has excellent potential for PR

Threats: Threats are problems we have that are external to Free Geek and harmful to achieving the objective. (Bad things that will or could happen to us.)

  • We're scrappy, which is great, but may be off-putting to corporate-types
  • Competition from buyback programs
  • Additional promises=additional admin work and tracking.
