Salary/Benefits
  • Wages are $11.55 per hour.
  • Length of job: 6 months
Work Hours
  • Part-time, 24 hours per week.
  • Four days per week or five shorter days, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 7:30pm, some evening or morning meetings, with some flexibility

Basic Info

This internship is a great opportunity to gain experience:

  • in a hands-on teaching environment
  • coordinating a diversity and large number of volunteers
  • collaborating with others to improve processes and make volunteers even happier
  • working at a busy non-profit

While the Prebuild Intern would spend a significant amount of time specifically in the Prebuild area, he/she would also be cross-training in other areas (particularly Hardware Donations and the Front Desk) and working together with the other interns to improve these areas collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise prebuild volunteers
  • Teach build volunteers in Prebuild areas
  • Cross-train at the Front Desk to assist with intake and processing of volunteers and donors
  • Cross-train in Hardware Donations to assist with management of gizmo flow
  • Learn about Free Geek's programs to accurately field questions
  • Schedule volunteer shifts accurately
  • Proactively communicate with other Free Geek staff and volunteers about Prebuild area, especially other interns
  • Help keep Prebuild area in line with Free Geek philosophy and capabilities
  • Attend pertinent committee meetings and keep up on relevant emails
  • Assist in training your replacement at the end of internship
  • Give tours of Free Geek to potential volunteers and donors

Required Skills

  • Aptitude for and enjoyment of helping people
  • Experience coordinating and/or instructing people
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, and able to eventually work with little supervision
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong organizational skills (you like to put stuff in order)
  • Able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds on a regular basis
  • Detail-oriented
  • Must speak English fluently
  • Must be reliable & on-time
  • Fluency in another language a plus!

In Addition

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat chaotic setting and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions but will be able to upkeep the area almost entirely without supervision. The candidate will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes.
