The first person to fill this position (as of June 2005) is M. Noel Harris. His preferred title is Flowmaster M, as, philosophically, this job is all about the flow.

  • Hours Weekly: 24 hours
  • Schedule somewhat negotiable
  • Rate of pay: $9.87/hr
  • Duration: 3 - 6 months
  • Benefits: This is an exploratory internship, not a collective position (yet), so benefits are somewhat limited to Wisdom, Camaraderie, Respect, and Fame or Infamy (your choice)

Job Description:

  • Coordinate volunteers in performing daily tasks
  • Communicate with other Free Geek staff and volunteers.
  • Help keep reuse areas in line with FREE GEEK philosophy and capabilities. Be aware of FREE GEEK programs.
  • Document, document, document!
  • Manage flow of donated "oddball" gizmos and ensure maximum reuse.
  • Help determine position's viability and need for a staff position.

Note: This person might make sure that people and organizations who want oddball hardware (that Free Geek doesn't need elsewhere) are enabled to get it through the store, a grants program, or even something like the adoption program. Establish procedures for these programs, streamline processes, and recruit volunteers.

  • Ability to work in an informal, friendly environment with a diverse staff
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs
  • Basic knowledge of free and open source software

In Addition:

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat chaotic setting and maintain a positive attitude. The candidate will not be afraid to ask questions but will be able to work on projects almost entirely without supervision. The candidate will be able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes.
