Details

Warrantied computers sold in the Free Geek Thrift Store are subject to the terms and conditions detailed in the document titled Warranty and Tech Support Sheet found on this page: Dead Trees.

Systems which are returned because of reasons which fall outside of this warranty may be subject to a 20% restocking fee. This fee will be taken off of the amount of credit given for an exchanged system. For example, if a $200 system was returned and subject to this fee the actual credit given would be $160. Guidelines for when a restocking fee will be charged:

  • Aesthetic reasons - including but not limited to: dissatisfaction with the color, size, weight, general outward appearance of the computer.
  • A condition which was previously existing, and made known to the customer - including but not limited to: dissatisfaction with the original hardware installed, hardware failures which were already present at the time of sale. For example, a laptop may be sold which has a 30 minute battery life. If the customer decides that this is too inconvenient and that they would rather have a longer battery life a fee will be charged.
  • The customer has changed their mind - if no demonstrable hardware issue exists, or the issue which exists is repairable, or the issue which exists is not supported under the warranty. For example, if a customer wishes to return a system because of a noisy fan and Tech Support can easily replace that fan, a 20% restocking fee will be charged.
  • Repeat returns - if a customer continually returns systems because of issues which are not covered under our warranty a fee will be charged.

This list is meant as a guide for Tech Support and Thrift Store staff. Each area reserves the right to charge a 20% restocking fee at their discretion, and for reasons which are not listed here, but will be explained to the customer at time of exchange.
