Slogans

The following unofficial slogan is not our Mission Statement, but rather was coined by the media (and adapted slightly by Free Geek people):

Helping the needy get nerdy since the beginning of the third millennium.

Another slogan was crafted by the PR committee in 2008 and has been used extensively since then:

Connecting our community one computer at a time.

Another slogan adorns the side of our truck (along with a graphic that appears on the truck and nowhere else):

Computer Reuse, Education & Recycling

And another slogan appears on our official letterhead:

Computers Internet Education thru [sic] Recycling

The Plan

On June 20, 2009, the PR committee officially "Old Yellered" the "Connecting our Community" slogan based on the results of a staff survey that revealed deep displeasure with it. The plan is to stop using it on future materials, and slowly unpublish it from current usage.

The "needy" slogan will remain in (subdued) use until a super-bang up replacement presents itself. The other part of this plan is to hold a "Geek Slogan-Off" to solicit suggestions for a new slogan, and develop some sort of process for selecting an official slogan that "gets" FG.

The Slogan-off was announced on Jan 9, 2010, and will remain open for submissions until further notice. Submissions may be made by going to freegeek.org/sloganoff, or by tweeting a submission and tagging it #geeksloganoff. When and if Free Geek actually adopts one of these slogans, a bounty of $200 will be awarded to the author.
