There is a script that automates this job.
Things to note:
- You do not need to do a backup, the script does it for you.
- This script needs to be run twice, pay careful attention to any instructions.
- Keeps an eye on the scripts progress, there may be occasional prompts. It is safe to choose the default option in all cases.
How to Use
- Root the boxand drop into the root shell. Do not run this as a normal user.
- Download it from ts backup:
wget http://tsbackup/upgrade-ubuntu.sh
chmod +x ./upgrade-ubuntu.sh
./upgrade-ubuntu.sh
- DO NOT REBOOT WHEN PROMPTED for the first time.
- Choose do not reboot.
- Press x to the destroy session.
- Then reboot.
- Run the script for a second time
