FreeGeek's 501(c)(3) status requires that we have a board of directors. And that carries with it certain implications, not the least that the BOD is responsible for seeing that decisions are responsible and in the best interest of the corporation. Which also implies that the BOD would have the right/responsibility to last word on any decisions made by Council. There has been an active discussion on the purpose and makeup of the Board. Since the members of the previous Bod resigned more or less en masse, a new one has been formed to keep us legal while these issues are worked out.
The current Bod is an interim Bod, and is described over at the New Bylaws Project page, as the interim Bod is largely involved in the new bylaws development. Another project of the new Bod is creation of Board Orientation materials, as well as a New Director Contract, which we hope to have ready for the next round of Bod elections in the fall. --Ideath 14:53, 3 Aug 2005 (PDT)
