At one point i said i'd try to write up something about the tasks of a busy bee. Better late than never, eh? I think this relates to the staff meeting big list, the training day, and, tangentially, the nametag issue.

1. At the beginning of the day, check the schedule so you know when you'll be a busy bee. What with schedule changes, it sometimes shifts.

2. When your shift starts, check in with the front desk. They may have people or tasks they need you to do.

3. If front desk says you're free to wander, make a circuit and introduce yourself to people. (Usually my script is something like "hey, whatcha up to? any questions? [answer questions here] well, my name is X and i'm just checking in on people. if you have a[nother] question, i'll be walking around and available to help out.")

4. Do stuff: Try to keep receiving moving smoothly & watch for large shipments. Welcome new volunteers and volunteers starting new tasks, show them to where they're supposed to be and either introduce them to someone who can show them what to do or show them what to do. Check in regularly with people in pre-build stages. Find new tasks for people who have finished their task.* Support the front desk. Find a tour guide or give the tours (at noon and 5). Move full boxes of sorted cards out of the sorting area. Keep an eye out for suspicious people. Answer general free geek questions. Give food and backrubs to front desk personnel. Keep an eye out for miscellaneous projects that need doing.

5. At the end of your shift, check in with everyone and let them know that you won't be available anymore for questions but that they should ask [name and description of the incoming Busy Bee], who will shortly be coming around to check in and say hi.

CLEANING (kitchen, bathroom, trash collection, recycling collection, fridge, sweeping, classroom) Wait list phone calling Card cloning (they don't have to do the cloning themselves, just the counting and labelling) Floppy disk disassembly Tearing up books/manuals for recycling Matching up speakers with power supplies Disentangling power cables Restocking build shelves with IDE and floppy cables Data entry Sorting untested mice Double-checking size labels on monitors in warehouse & stocking FB shelf

This is just a start, and sort of two lists in one.
