  • Online tests for identifying parts on a motherboard and card types could be very helpful for the random connectors (AT keyboard) and card slots (ISA, EISA, VESA, and MCA slots and cards). I don't know how hard it would be to create a test like that, but it would give us a better idea of who is really learning and who needs more time.

Card sorting as it is now serves to functions:

  1. teaches volunteers how to identify card types, connectors and all that
  2. puts cards in order so that advanced testing and store can get what they need

Both of these objectives are very necessary and card sorting currently serves both of them well (in the opinion of eBeth). Also, many people need one on one attention in this area and the idea of students grabbing a sample box and "studying up" might discourage folks that need more assistance.

A possible system for pre-build;

  1. card and mobo sorting stays as is
  2. on line test to see if people are learning and to teach random stuff that might not be donated as often. (newer connectors like sata, ect).
  3. teach people hard drive sizing and power supply testing
  4. evaluation can incorporate all of the functions of case management
  • command-line stays the same

I generally think that walkins are a bad idea because it encourages disorder in the universe.
