Free Geek is a unique work environment. For this reason it is essential that each applicant take a tour of our facility (active volunteers are exempt). Tours are offered Tuesday - Saturday at both 12:00PM and 6:00PM.
Can you make us loom head and shoulders above the competition? Can you help us help the public love and appreciate our greatness? Are you comfortable in a unique, constantly changing, non-heirarchical work environment? Do you know some stuff about marketing, PR and the like? If so, this might be the position for you!
Responsibilities:
- Formulate promotional strategies and make appropriate recommendations for publicity mediums
- Plan and coordinate promotional, public education, and informational activities
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, tailoring the message to the intended audience
- Make effective visual and oral presentations
- Write news releases, public service announcements and advertising copy, fax sheets, correspondence and other documents
- Maintain confidential data and information
- Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines
- Establish, maintain, and foster effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Maintain print and electronic documentation to support these goals
- Lead a standing committee to support these goals
Desired Skills:
- Background in Outreach and/or Marketing
- Graphic design experience
- Grant writing experience
- Website management experience
- Friendly, outgoing personality
- Patient and courteous with the public
- Likes working with people
- Solid organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to extract info from current staff and put into transparent system that everyone can understand
- Empowered and self-motivated worker
- Work well under stress in an unusual setting, maintaining a positive attitude even in the face of adversity
- Ability to work and communicate well in a collectively-run organization
- Ability to work in a consensus decision making process related to staff and policy issues
- Not afraid to ask questions, but able to work on projects almost entirely without supervision
- Able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes
- Previous experience in a collectively-run organization
- Experience coordinating volunteers
